There is also no numpad, which I count as a feature because it makes for better typing posture with your hands centered in front of the screen, but data-entry enthusiasts will no doubt find it annoying. Obviously ThinkPad (or Latitude) laptop users will also appreciate it. Some will prefer it over a trackpad, and in a pinch where there is really no extra desk space whatsoever, you don't need to have a mouse because of it. The trackpoint is also very convenient, allowing you to do precision pointing without moving your fingers away from the keyboard. It's compact size makes it perfect for tight spaces where there isn't much desk space, I set mine on top of my laptop's keyboard deck (which I hate for an instant keyboard upgrade. Overall, the typing experience is pretty similar to the recent ThinkPad laptops, which is kind of the point of this product. The keys have plenty of travel, there's not much deck flex even though I typically strike the keys exceptionally hard. The typing experience is pretty good, it probably won't impress hardcore mechanical keyboard enthusiasts but it certainly beats most laptop keyboards and I personally can't stand cheap desktop keyboards.

Why did Lenovo do this do the keyboard instead of just having the driver software or configuration handle scrollwheel emulation for people who want it?Ĭompact, versatile, comfortable Though a bit expensive, I think this is a good product that could be invaluable in certain situations. What's so frustrating about this is that it's trivial to configure the X server to emulate a scroll wheel given a third mouse button, but almost impossible to do the converse. Worse, I can't even get the horizontal scroll wheel to work, because it seems to get reported as a completely different class of usb hid event. The minute you drag, the mouse button is reported as released and instead up and down movement gets reported as scroll wheel events.

Unfortunately, the middle mouse button on this keyboard is not really a middle mouse button, because it doesn't allow you to drag. I've used many Lenovo laptops and keyboards and until now loved them all because they had a three button mouse built right into the keyboard.

I don’t have to move one hand away from the keyboard, for example, just to change window or app sizes.No real middle mouse button I'm an X windows user, and make extensive use of the middle mouse button with the trackpoint. However, after training my hands with the muscle memory to use these Chromebook keyboard shortcuts, it’s much faster for me. Obviously, using a trackpad or a mouse to resize, maximize or minimize windows works. Currently, that feature does require using your trackpad or a mouse because you have to hover over the multitasking button for the different views. That’s still in the works but when it arrives on all devices, you’ll be able to tile your Chromebook windows in several different views. I also didn’t show it but you can still use these Chromebook keyboard shortcuts in tandem with the upcoming partial split window feature. I did that because these Chromebook keyboard shortcuts work across all windows, even Linux apps, even though I didn’t show that here.

One is the Chrome browser, one is a Progressive Web App (PWA) and one is an Android app. You’ll notice I used three different types of Chromebook windows here. However, that’s not a function of the keyboard shortcuts. You can see in a short video showing how quickly these work bear in mind that I filmed this with an entry-level device so the window movement may appear slow. Note that you can find all current Chromebook keyboard shortcuts on Google’s official support page. Pressing it repeatedly cycles through the open apps, making for a quick switch from window to window.

I use these in combination with the ALT plus TAB shortcut, which shows between all open Chromebook windows or apps. These maximize and minimize Chromebook windows, respectively. The two keyboard shortcuts you want to know are the ALT plus = (or ALT plus +, which is how I like to remember it) and ALT plus – (Alt plus the minus key).
